COVINGTON — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred Sunday night on Ga. Highway 20 near Buckingham Drive in Newton County.
Kayla Quinnisha Ward, 20, of Covington was killed when she attempted to pass another vehicle, hitting a couple in an oncoming car and causing them serious injury, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. Ward was driving a blue Honda Accord and was traveling south on Ga. Highway 20 and was in a passing zone while attempting to pass another vehicle, Wright said. "The Honda collided with a northbound silver Chrysler Pacifica being driven by David Wells, 50, also of Covington," Wright said. "Kayla Ward was killed in the crash. David Wells and his wife, Fannie Wells, 47, were taken to Walton Regional Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Atlanta Medical Center." Weather was not a factor in the crash, Wright said, adding that there was just not sufficient time to complete the pass.More like this story
