COVINGTON -- The 20th Annual Newton Medical Center Auxiliary Autumn Action Golf Tournament will take place Oct. 8, and this year, proceeds will benefit the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.
The auxiliary is $75,000 shy of its $350,000 goal. Volunteer Services Director Martha Taylor said she hopes the tournament will raise $50,000. The money will be applied to equipment purchases for the unit, which opened in March 2009.
"It would be great for people to come out and show their support for the hospital and auxiliary and the services we provide, especially in this 50th year of our organization," Taylor said.
The tournament will be held at Indian Creek Golf Course, located at 10400 Bypass Road in Covington. Registration and a vendor/health fair will take place from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Lunch will take place from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and the tournament will begin at noon. Teams will be chosen according to player handicaps. Players who want to play together can do so in the non-competitive category.
The entry fee is $125 per player and the deadline to register is Friday. Registration forms are available at Indian Creek, at Newton Medical Center or by calling 770-788-6553.
Sponsorships are also available and range from $350 to $2,500. The charge for a booth in the vendor/health fair is $200. The fee will be waived for sponsors.
Team prizes will include gift certificates to the Indian Creek Pro Shop ranging from $50 to $150. The winner of the hole-in-one contest will walk away with a car. The tournament will end with a ball drop contest. Numbered golf balls will be dropped around a target and the person with the number matching the ball landing closest to the target will win $1,000. A second and third place prize will also be given. Tickets are $10 per person.
