Piedmont Academy recently named its Student Council representatives.
The senior high school officers have been working with their grade representatives to plan the 2010-11 school year.
Officers include: Sam Cleary, president; Davis Kimball, vice-president; Katie Odegaard, secretary/treasurer; 12th grade representatives, Nina Blackshear, Dakota Collins, Brooke Formby and Rhett Roberts; 11th grade representatives, Briana Bailey, Jakey Dunagan, Leigh Hicks and Samuel McGinnis; 10th grade representatives, Patrick Berg, Julia Clare Maloney, Lucy Strickland and Glade Tuggle; and ninth grade representatives, Britton Bailey, Austin Bass, Savannah McGinnis and Amberly Moseley.
The senior high Student Council is responsible for organizing Homecoming, Spirit Week and May Day. In addition to the activities at Piedmont, the Student Council supports activities that reach beyond Piedmont, including collecting items for care packages and Christmas cards for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, collecting soda can pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House and assembling canned foods for the Jasper County Department of Family and Children Services.
Additionally, the Student Council is collecting Coke Rewards to earn supplies for the school. The representatives are also serving their teachers by collecting the paper to be recycled on a weekly from each classroom. The group is sponsored by Spanish teacher Suzanne Arena.
The junior high school student council is lead by President Alex Parish; Vice-President Ben Davis; Secretary Hank Strickland, Treasurer Austin Parish; 8th grade representatives Abby Hyde, Andrew Mitchell and Hunter Pope; 7th grade representatives Matti Smith and Caleb Usry; and 6th grade representatives Morgan Johnston and Mack Brady.
Their projects this year will include student issues, school projects, junior high homecoming, spirit week, romance dance and May Day. Their sponsor is social studies teacher Elizabeth Davis.
