SNELLVILLE -- Police have charged an acquaintance of 61-year-old Eva May Francis with fatally shooting her earlier this month.
Gwinnett police arrested Damion Barton, 31, of Conyers, on charges of malice murder Saturday. He remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
Barton had lived with Francis and her husband at their Garnet Way home in Snellville for a brief stint a few months before her Sept. 7 killing, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
Barton was taken into custody without incident Saturday at a home in Conyers.
Evidence at the scene showed Francis' home was unlawfully entered, and that Francis was a planned target. She lived in the home with her husband, who was away on business in Canada, police said.
Francis' silver 2003 Toyota 4Runner, which was stolen, has not been recovered. Its tag reads "HU151Z," police said.
Police urge anyone with information regarding the vehicle to call 770-513-5300.
