It may look desolate at the Covington Post Office, but business is continuing as usual while the building and parking lot are under renovation, as proven by Michael Towns of Covington, who picked up his mail there Wednesday. Customers are asked to park in the lot at the corner of Brown and Stallings streets across from the post office. The renovation includes the repaving of the parking lot and moving the handicap accessible parking space closer to the door, replacing and repairing damaged brick, painting the exterior and laying new tile in the customer and main lobbies. Handicap parking is available on the Lee Street side today and the parking lot is expected to reopen Friday. There will be no access to the outer lobby after 2 p.m. Saturday, and Postmaster Shane Williams urged customers to pick up their mail prior to that time. The project is expected to be completed by Monday.
