Drs. Lawrence and Alma Woodard of Conyers (formerly of Bartow, Fla.) were honored by their children with a 50th wedding anniversary on June 26 at Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge. The theme for the event was "Love is a Many Splendored Thing."
Minister Sterlin Woodard officiated the renewing of the couple's vows. Dr. Lawrence Woodard Jr. and Dr. Sophia Woodard gave a brief description of the couple's history.
Mrs. Nancy Cunningham, sister of the bride, served as the maid of honor. Oziemar Woodard, brother of the groom, served as the best man. Little Miss Nadia Janeen Woodard served as the flower girl.
Mrs. Gwendolyn Woodard Porter served as the Mistress of Ceremony for the event.
Other program participants were: Herbert Woodard, family spokesman and Dr. Camalyn Woodard Gaines and Mrs. Starlin Woodard Favors, who presented a congratulatory letter from President Barack Obama and a proclamation from the Governor and the House of Representatives of the State of Georgia.
Other family members in attendance were: Mrs. Annette Woodard Dempsey and great granddaughter Janya Jones, Mrs. Barbara Gallon Woodard, Mrs. Betty Twiggs Woodard, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Katrina) Woodard and son Adam; Mrs. Elaine Woodard, Mr. and Mrs. Torrence (Shannon) Stevenson, daughter India and son Mekai; Charles Cunningham and son Edward; Ray Favors, Mrs. Lora Woodard, Randal Gaines, Mrs. Melanie Woodard, Erica Woodard, Randal Gaines III, Regina Woodard, Jamal Payne, Matthew Woodard, Ashley Favors, Ariel Gaines, Breon Gaines, Faith Woodard, Rachel Favors and Eric Porter.
The Woodards are the parents of five children and 10 grandchildren.
They are retired math and music professors from Grambling State University, where they taught for 32 years.
