Numerous employees and volunteers with Newton County Fire Service, the Cornish Creek Water Treatment facility, and other public safety professionals collaborated Tuesday night in a staged rescue drill at the Cornish Creek Reservoir. According to NCFS Deputy Chief Kevin O'Brien, the drill was to make sure that all employees of the various entities were "on the same page as far as training, equipment and techniques" when it comes to confined space rescue. He said such a rescue may some day be necessary at facility because of the hazardous materials stored there.Newton County Fire Service firefighter William Bruce is lowered into a "confined space" to rescue an "unconscious victim," portrayed by Newton County Public Works employee Chad Owens.
