This fuzzy baby needs some loving as do his five litter mates, all of which found themselves at the Newton County Animal Shelter early in their young lives. Shelter workers say they have both males and females and most have more black on them than this puppy. There may be some St. Bernard in this boy's background, but nobody knows for sure as the litter was found abandoned in Oxford. They're believed to be 6 to 8 weeks old and have been vaccinated and dewormed.

Their adult weight is estimated to be about 60 pounds. One or all can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten.

Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
