COVINGTON — Students and some staff members in the Newton County School System will get a break from their schools this week.
Starting Monday and continuing through Friday, the NCSS will offer a fall break for students and teachers. Schools will be closed, and other NCSS offices will operate under altered schedules. The Newton County Board of Education building, which is located at 2109 Newton Drive N.E. in Covington, will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; it will be closed to the public Thursday and Friday. Students, teachers and other school- and system-level staff members will report back to their schools and offices on Oct. 25 to continue the remainder of the semester. The Newton County Board of Education will meet as usual this month. Its work session was held last week, and its monthly meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the board room at the building on Newton Drive. The next scheduled break for NCSS students is during Thanksgiving week, when schools will close from Nov. 24 through 26.More like this story
