COVINGTON -- The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an accident involving a city of Covington sanitation worker who was struck by a vehicle while performing his duties on Ga. Highway 36 near Misty Lane on Wednesday morning.
According to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright, the 29-year-old victim was struck by Ford Escape driven by Brittany Marie Wilson, 19, of Monticello. Wilson also struck the rear of the garbage truck. She was charged with following too closely.
Wright said the truck was stopped with its flasher and strobe lights activated.
Public Works Director Billy Bouchillon said the victim was working through a temporary employment agency and had been on the job about six months.
"He had on his vest and all of our safety equipment was functioning properly," Bouchillon said.
Wright said the injured worker was transported to Walton Medical Center for treatment. There were no other injuries reported.
