CONYERS — A 28-year-old Covington man was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Rockdale County.
The fatal crash occurred at 6:05 a.m. in the eastbound lane of I-20 and one mile east of the Ga. Highway 138 exit, according to Gordy Wright, spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol. Eric Clinton Deaton was killed in the crash. He was driving east in a Ford Explorer when the vehicle left the road on the south shoulder. "The driver over corrected, causing the vehicle to re-enter the roadway, cross the travel lanes, and strike the median wall with the front of the vehicle," Wright said. "The vehicle then began to overturn." Deaton was the only person in the vehicle. Wright said alcohol, speed and failing to wear a seat belt were all contributing factors in the fatal crash.More like this story
