Covington Lions Club members Roger Pflug and Ed Minge mark off the areas where vendors are setting up this morning at Legion Field for the fifth annual Sherman's Last Burning Fall Festival and BBQ Cook-Off. About 50 vendors will participate and new foods available for purchase this year will include gator tail, fresh crepes and shrimp and grits. More than 25 cooks are expected to participate in a professional barbecue competition sanctioned by the Kansas Barbecue Society and there will be an amateur competition as well. The event will also include entertainment, arts and crafts and a kids' area. The Miss Hazzard County Pageant will be held Saturday and is open to all ages. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the competition begins at 11. Attire is country wear only. For more information on the pageant, call 770-947-3260. The festival begins today at 3 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Legion Field on Mill Street. Admission is $3. Children 12 and under get in free. All proceeds will benefit The Miracle League of Newton County.
