Nine-month-old baby mauled while sleeping by raccoons

A 9-month-old baby was mauled by two raccoons as she slept in her crib early Wednesday morning, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at 125 Brookhollow Way, a rural area below Mansfield, off Loyd Rd. The child received extensive injuries to her face and head area, according to NCSO Lt. Tyrone Oliver and was transported to Children's Health Care at Egleston where she is in critical condition. For more details on this story, see Thursday's edition of the Newton Citizen.
