All this boy needs is a good haircut and he'll be the perfect family pet. A male Shihtzu, he's only 7 months old and ready to be molded and shaped into the dog you want him to be. He can already walk on a leash and sit on command. He was given up by an owner who could no longer care for him. He'll probably weigh a sturdy 20 pounds as an adult and has a very sweet disposition.

He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals.

The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514.

Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
