Students to get short Thanksgiving break

CONYERS -- Students, teachers and other staff in Rockdale County Public Schools will get a small break next week to celebrate Thanksgiving and maybe even get a little holiday shopping started.

Starting Monday and continuing until Friday, schools will be closed to students and staff in observance of Thanksgiving.

The RCPS Central Office, which is located at 954 North. Main St. in Conyers, is operating under normal business hours for the public, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and will be closed for the rest of the week to observe the holiday.

The RCPS student registration offices, which are located at 1143 West Ave. in Conyers, also will continue operating under normal business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and will be closed for the remainder of the week.

The Rockdale County Board of Education has already held its monthly work session and regular session meetings for November.

It will meet next on Dec. 9 and 16 for a monthly work session and regular session meeting, respectively. They begin at 7 p.m. in the board room at the RCPS administrative complex, which also is located at 954 N. Main St. in Conyers.

Students and other school- and system-level staff will report back to their schools and offices on Monday Nov. 29 to complete the rest of the semester.

The next break for students and staff is a two-week long semester break, which is scheduled from Monday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 31. The second semester of the 2010-11 school year will begin for students on Jan. 5, as Monday, Jan. 3 will be a holiday to observe New Years Day and Tuesday, Jan. 4 is scheduled to be a teacher work day.
