Haley Crapps, a fourth-grader at Walnut Grove Elementary School and a member of the Newton County 4-H Club, brought her own "reindeer" to Thursday night's festivities on the Square. Haley's reindeer is actually a lamb, but he, along with about 10 other would-be reindeer and 4-H Club members, took top honors as they led Santa and Mrs. Claus to the courthouse just before the lighting ceremony, which officially kicked off the Christmas holiday season. The night also marked the first Thursday of the Hometown Holiday Celebration, during which merchants on the Square will extend their hours for shoppers each Thursday in December.
