OXFORD -- The Oxford City Council is hoping to keep the name Palmer Stone in the community of its origin. The council members have developed a resolution asking the Newton County Board of Education to allow the name Palmer Stone to remain associated with the location of the elementary school in Oxford. The school board plans to discuss at its 7 p.m. work session Tuesday moving the name "Palmer Stone Elementary School" to the new elementary school being built on Airport Road near Ga. Highway 142. See Saturday's Newton Citizen for a complete article.
