COVINGTON -- Woodlee's Christian Academy graduated its first class May 22 at Christ Cornerstone Church in Covington.
Damir Dado Dandic was honored as the class valedictorian, and Ryan Anthony Martin was honored as the class salutatorian.
As the pioneer Woodlee's student to enroll in Dual Enrollment at Georgia Perimeter College, Damir has maintained a solid 4.0 grade-point average. He also was involved in the Beta Club and student council.
With plans to continue his studies as a pre-medicine student at Georgia Perimeter College, Dandic hopes to enroll at a competitive school in order to continue his pursuit of a career in the medical science field.
Martin has a passion for fine arts and has been heavily involved in band and chorus at school as well as playing in a band outside of school. He also served as student council president during the 2009-10 school year.
Martin has plans to attend GPC next year and hopes to complete his degree in music at a state university. He plans on pursuing a career in music.
Ed Lawson, a lifelong educator and teacher at WCA, led the graduates in a stirring look at the legacy of George Washington. School Principal Bobby Fleck and school Executive Director Terri Knight presided over the commencement activities and awarded the graduates with their college preparatory diplomas.
The Rev. Bob Aston also offered the benediction in honor of the graduates. The two top graduates presented speeches that commemorated their high school years, teachers, parents and affirmed their commitment to a faithful relationship with God for the rest of their lives.
The graduating class also represents the culmination of a dream that was 40 years in the making. In 1970, John and Daisy Woodlee began Woodlee's Christian Childcare Center in Conyers. 2010 marks the 40-year anniversary of the child care center and also marks the year of the first graduating class of Woodlee's Christian Academy.
