Alcovy celebrates 'first class' graduation

COVINGTON -- The 2010 graduation ceremony for Alcovy High School was an historic one.The class of 2010 is the first graduating class to have completed all four years at the school, whch opened its doors for the 2005-06 school year. Additionally, the ceremony was the last for Newton County School System Superintendent Steven Whatley, who is retiring in June after more than 35 years in education. And for the first time, the school held its program at the Church in the Now in Conyers, instead of its gymnasium in southern Newton County.

Family survives van crash into creek

COVINGTON — A head-on collision between a van and a pickup truck early Friday afternoon resulted in the van going off a bridge and into a creek, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Openings for driver's ed still available
