COVINGTON -- The Covington Family YMCA will offer 10 weeks of fun scheduled to begin on June 1 and continuing through Aug. 6.
Children ages 5 through 12 are invited to participate in camp activities while teenagers 13 to 15 years of age are invited to join the Leaders in Training program.
Each one-week camp session will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The YMCA will also provide program participants free pre-camp and post-camp service from 6:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Activities will include swimming in the YMCA pool, arts and crafts, games and sports programs. Field trips to area attractions will be held on a weekly basis. Currently, ventures to Stevi B's, the Covington/Newton County Library and the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center are on the summer itinerary.
In addition, several organizations will make visits to the YMCA to make presentations, including the Covington Fire Department and the Covington Police Department.
The cost per week is $95 for program members and $85 for Covington YMCA facility members. The enrollment fee for the Leaders in Training program is $50 per week. The registration fee for all campers is $35. Campers should provide their own lunches each day.
Financial aid is available through the YMCA's Partner with Youth program for people who meet certain criteria.
Enrollment packets are available at the Covington Family YMCA and must be completed prior to enrollment. The YMCA facility is located at 2140 Newton Drive in Covington across from the Sharp Learning Center. The YMCA will also offer a variety of aquatic programs this summer. Swim lessons for children of all ages and experience levels will be available throughout the summer.
Each session of swim lessons consists of eight classes over a two- week period. The cost of lessons is $75 per session for program members and $65 per session for Covington YMCA facility members.
The Piranhas Swim Team is registering for the Summer 2010 season. Children ages 5 to 18 are eligible to participate. The Piranhas are coached by Drew Ellwanger, state champion swimmer and collegiate athlete. The team teaches and practices technique and form for skill enhancement. The Piranhas compete as a member of The Rockdale Swim League.
The cost for swim team participation is $100 for program members and $90 for Covington YMCA facility members plus a $20 uniform fee.
