Heard-Mixon Elementary School second-grader Jackie Gayle tried a solo run down the 250-foot water slide at the FFA-FCCLA Camp Wednesday and reached the bottom safe and sound. She was among the Heard-Mixon students who reached their Accelerated Reader goals for the year and was rewarded with the water outing as well as a cookout.

COVINGTON -- County commissioners denied a conditional-use permit for a canine training school Tuesday night after receiving a petition from more than 100 citizens who said they are opposed to the facility being located in a residential area.
