COVINGTON Some students and their families are hitting the beach next week to celebrate spring.
All of the schools in the Newton County School System are closed next week for Spring Break.
Starting Monday and continuing until April 9, all schools and the NCSS central offices, located at 2109 Newton Drive N.E. in Covington, are closed.
The Newton County Board of Education, which usually meets the second and third Tuesdays of most months, also will not meet during this time to observe the Spring Break. Instead, the school board will hold its monthly work session April 13 and its regular session monthly meeting April 27. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. in the board room at the Newton County BOE building, also located at 2109 Newton Drive N.E. in Covington.
Before the break on Monday, students will be released from school early on Friday, as employees participate in professional learning activities.
Newton County Schools and its central office will reopen for students and staff April 12 to continue the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.
This is the last break students and staff will get until the end of the school year, which ends May 28. Staff will not report to schools May 31, as it is Memorial Day, but they will participate in post-planning on June 1 and 2.
The complete NCSS calendar for the 2009-10 school year is available on its Web site, www.newtoncountyschools.org.
