Benjamin Dameron of Covington handles these fragile baby chicks who just arrived at Tractor Supply Company in Covington. Although these chicks' first glimpse of life is the side of a metal container, they're eager to be out and about in their own environment. They're the first wave of chicks to reach the store which will carry Bantams, Cornish Rocks and Straight Run chicks for sale. The store has found there is a demand for stock for backyard chicken coops as families are trending toward producing their own food. Experts say as a general rule, a flock of 15 hens will produce about a dozen eggs per day. Tractor Supply will sell a minimum of six chicks to each customer.
