CONYERS -- The Rockdale County Neighborhood Stabilization Program will offer three seminars today and Thursday for interested home buyers.
The NSP will hold the seminars at the J.P. Carr Community Center, located at 981 Taylor St. Tonight's meeting will be for all government employees interested in purchasing a house through the NSP program.
An information seminar for real estate professionals is planned for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. Another seminar for local business employees will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
County officials explained the seminars offer the same basic information on how to purchase an NSP house and the public is invited to attend any of the seminars.
Home buyers with a total household income under $113,550 and willing to attend an eight-hour Housing and Urban Development certified education course may be eligible for NSP. The NSP program is open to all families, whether residing in Rockdale County or wishing to relocate or just seeking homeownership.
Rockdale County was awarded a $2.7 million grant in March 2009 as part of the federal government's economic stimulus money to purchase, rehabilitate and sell houses in neighborhoods hardest hit by the recent wave of foreclosures.
The houses were purchased and rehabilitated by asset management firms hired by the county to be available for sale through the NSP program.
Rockdale County currently has an inventory of 14 houses in the NSP program. Those who meet qualifications can also receive up to $14,500 in down payment assistance from the program.
