CONYERS -- The community is invited to support the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology while enjoying a relaxing evening at a local restaurant.
Seven Gables restaurant is holding the fourth annual Community Outreach Event to benefit the Rockdale Magnet Fund, which supports students and programs at the Magnet School.
From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 18, guests can enjoy an international wine tasting, light hors d'oeuvres, live music and a silent auction.
Wines -- which are donated by the restaurant and Sigman Bottle Shop -- include those from Australia, France, Italy and Sonoma County, Calif. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served to complement the wine.
"One hundred percent of the receipts go to the Magnet Fund -- we don't deduct any costs," said Chef Alain Bouzoubaa of Seven Gables restaurant in Conyers, which donates its facility, food, time and staff.
Jazz musicians Dan Turner and Berne Poliakoff will perform live music. They also are volunteering their time.
A silent auction will be held featuring items donated from local merchants. The restaurant is still collecting items for the auction. To donate, interested businesses should call Bouzoubaa at 770-922-8824.
Tickets cost $30 per person in advance or $40 per person at the door. Sales are limited to 130 tickets due to the restaurant's capacity. Guests also must be 21 years old or older.
Last year, the event raised $4,300.
"I'm all about education, and I like to encourage students to excel," said Bouzoubaa, whose daughter is a junior and who had another daughter recently graduate from the Magnet program. "It is such an outstanding program that we have here."
Throughout the school year, Magnet School families also hold other fundraisers, such as plant sales, and students work the concession stands during Georgia Tech football games to raise funds for program activities.
More information about the program and donating to it is available by calling the school at 770-483-8737 or visiting www.rockdalemagnetschool.com.
