COVINGTON -- Parents of kindergarten-age students soon can register their children in the Newton County School System for the 2010-11 school year.
Newton County School System's annual Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled from March 15 to 18.
Parents whose children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1 can register them at their assigned schools from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on a scheduled day.
Registration is open March 15 at Middle Ridge, Palmer Stone and Porterdale elementary schools; on March 16 at East Newton, Oak Hill and Rocky Plains elementary schools; on March 17 at Live Oak, Mansfield, Livingston and South Salem elementary schools; and on March 18 at Ficquett, Heard-Mixon and West Newton elementary schools.
To register a child, a parent or legal guardian must bring with them to the school several documents: the student's certified birth certificate and Social Security card; two medical forms, including Immunization Record Form 3231 and Form 3300: Hearing, Vision and Dental Screening Record; and two proofs of residence, which include a garbage, electric, water, gas utility bill that includes the name and address of the registrant and a current lease, rental agreement or mortgage statement.
Proof of custody or guardianship also is required for children who don't live with one or both parents.
The prospective students also should attend the registration with their parents so teachers can conduct necessary screenings. If needed, schools also can conduct hearing or vision tests at the schools during the time of registration.
Parents who cannot attend the scheduled registration days at their assigned school can attend any of the other elementary school registration periods.
More information, including downloads for registration documents, is available at the NCSS Web site, www.newtoncountyschools.org, or by contacting the schools.
