The snow event wasn't too impressive for residents of Newton County, although it was definitely cold and wet. Here, Covington Fire Department Firefighter Johnnie Wiggins scrapes the snow off a co-worker's truck at Station 2 on Alcovy Road on Tuesday afternoon. All agencies, including the city of Covington and Newton County Public Works, the Covington Police Department, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office and Snapping Shoals EMC, said they were prepared to go out and handle emergencies should they arise. The Newton County School system maintained a regular schedule, but cancelled after-school activities with the exception of the AAAAA basketball tournament scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
