COVINGTON -- Members of the Newton County Board of Education said good-bye to their leader Tuesday night, as Superintendent Steven Whatley presided over his last school board meeting.

Jury: Men guilty of assault, not robbery

CONYERS -- A Rockdale Superior Court jury returned a not guilty verdict Wednesday afternoon in an armed robbery case stemming from an incident in which two men were accused of robbing an elderly man at gunpoint last summer. The two defendants were convicted on other charges in connection with the incident.

Schulz, Simmons complete ACCG certification

COVINGTON -- Newton County Commissioners Nancy Schulz and Earnest Simmons are among more than 100 county officials from across the state recently recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia for completion of the Commissioners Training Program and the Certified Commissioners Advanced Program at the association's 96th annual Meeting held in Savannah.
