Sheriff's Office offers firearm safety classes

COVINGTON -- Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown is inviting interested parties to participate in the second Citizens Firearm Safety Course for 2010.

The next classes are set for two consecutive Saturdays, July 10 and July 17, from 8 a.m. until noon at the NCSO headquarters at 15151 Alcovy Road. Participants must attend both classes.

The classes will consist of information on laws governing the use of deadly force; firearm safety at and away from the range; and nomenclature of the basic revolver and semiautomatic pistols. Additionally, participants will have a chance to fire their weapon at the NCSO firing range.

Participants must be at least 21, consent to and pass a criminal background check and produce a valid Georgia drivers license.

Firearms brought to the class must be in good and serviceable condition and class members are responsible for supplying their own ammunition.

Applications can be obtained from NCSO headquarters and those accepted will be notified by e-mail.
