COVINGTON -- Rush hour traffic was snarled Tuesday evening for about an hour as two accidents on Interstate 20 eastbound were cleared.
According to Covington Police Department spokesman Lt. Wendell Wagstaff, the first crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. between exits 90 and 92, or the Covington/Oxford exit and the Alcovy Road exit.
"It was a one-vehicle accident. The car overturned and there was an entrapment. The driver was airlifted to Atlanta," Wagstaff said.
The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash.
A short time later, a woman also overturned her vehicle near exit 88, or the Almon Road exit, according to Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. Anthony Washington.
"Traffic slowed for the other accident and she slammed on her brakes really, really hard, causing her to flip over and collide with another vehicle," Washington said.
The woman driver was fine; however, her passenger was taken by ground ambulance to an Atlanta hospital.
