Anna Keappler of Wesleyan School has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. Keappler is pictured with Ted Russell, head volleyball coach of Wesleyan School. She is the daughter of Judy Howard Keappler, who attended Newton High School, and the granddaughter of Jean and John Howard of Covington. Keappler, a 6-foot senior outside hitter for Wesleyan, played in the varsity program for four years. During that time, she helped the Wolves to 190 wins, four area titles and three state championships. The coaches in A/AA selected Keappler as the A/AA State Player of the Year in 2009. She holds the Wesleyan single season record for digs at 342 during the 2009 season. Keappler is second on the school season single season record list with 496 kills.
The volleyball team at Wesleyan, under the leadership of Russell, has won the A/AA state championship in five of the last six years.
