Newton Citizen
Diana Nazaroff tends her garden plot in the Porterdale Community Garden in preparation for guests. Hands on Newton, which helped organize the collaborative garden, is holding a garden party to celebrate the overwhelming success of the project. Program Director Mollie Melvin calls the event, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, a "friend-raiser" and hopes new friends will come out to see the work that's been accomplished on the 38 plots in the garden. She said the gardeners who have participated in this year's effort come from a variety of backgrounds -- some experienced gardeners, some who wanted to give it a try, some who wanted to share the experience with their families and some who are just enjoying the collaborative environment. People planning to attend Friday's event should RSVP by calling 770-330-7405 or e-mailing handsonnewton@yahoo.com. Refreshments, including produce from the garden, will be served.
