COVINGTON -- A Covington man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon about 4 p.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper said Clayton Joshua Karp, 22, was fatally injured when his pickup truck crashed into a tree near the intersection of Brown Bridge Road and Spillers Drive.
Cosper said Karp was traveling west on Brown Bridge Road.
"For an unknown reason, he exited the westbound lane of travel and entered the eastbound lane and went onto the ... shoulder and struck a tree," Cosper said. "He had his seat belt on, but he was killed."
Cosper said any contributing factors that may have caused the crash were unknown, although he said that he had seen crashes where a vehicle struck a tree "without much speed at all" and the results were fatal.
