Feeling the chill: Schools on alert as snowfall in forecast

COVINGTON -- With temperatures hovering around the freezing mark this week and a chance of snow possible Thursday, officials with the Newton County School System are keeping an eye on the weather.

Safety should be first concern in winter storm

COVINGTON -- Scouting's mantra is "Be Prepared," and public safety agencies are giving the same advice in regard to approaching winter weather. And, whether or not it snows in the next few days, with approximately 10 more weeks of winter to be endured, residents can't go wrong in giving a little forethought to what needs to be done to remain safe and warm.

Three charged in arson

COVINGTON -- Deputy Chief Tim Smith of the Newton County Fire Service has announced the arrest of three suspects in a Nov. 30 fire at a Jackson Lake home that has been ruled arson.

City OKs airport authority

COVINGTON -- The City Council unanimously approved a resolution asking the state legislature to create an airport authority to oversee Covington Municipal Airport.

Chamber of Commerce annual meeting set for Jan. 14

COVINGTON -- The Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual meeting Jan. 14 at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield.
