Virginia Pearson, right, founder of Operation Sandbox, recently received a plaque from Chief Warrant Officer Robert Tadlock with the Georgia Army National Guard in appreciation for outstanding service and support of the 48th Brigade. Pearson and a staff of volunteers have sent care packages to more than 80,000 troops since Operation Sandbox was founded in 2004. In addition to basic care items, such as food and hygiene products, National Guard troops have received microwaves, coffee pots, toasters, refrigerators and heaters.
