A wet threat: Weekend rain causes flash floods, closes roads

COVINGTON -- Following Sunday's rain, the Yellow River was expected to crest at the Milstead Bridge in Rockdale County at 1 a.m. this morning at 14.5 feet, 2.5 feet above flood stage, according to the National Weather Service.

DA seeking prosecutor for Henderson

Newton County District Attorney Ken Wynne has announced that he will ask the Georgia Attorney General's office to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case of Newton County Commissioner J.C. Henderson. Henderson, 53, was charged with battery under the Family Violence Act, a misdemeanor, after an alleged family fight on Oct. 10.

Financial aid workshop today

It's time for Newton County senior students and their parents to start thinking about how they will pay for college. To help them out, the county's three high schools are holding a joint Financial Aid Workshop tonight so parents can get more information and ask any questions they may have.
