Newton Citizen
Numerous volunteers rolled up their sleeves and went to work on a community garden in Porterdale on Monday in honor of the MLK holiday. The event was organized by Hands on Newton County and Newton County Extension Service Master Gardeners. Plans are to lease plots to residents who would like to grow their own vegetables. Top soil will be furnished and those leasing the plots will need to provide their own seed and plants. Above, Lauren Black, left, a 9-year-old student at Young Americans Christian School, and Victoria Baker, a third-grader at Palmer-Stone Elementary School, paint partitions that will divide the 48 available plots. For more information on the program, visit www.newtonpartnership.org and click on Hands on Newton, or call 770-330-7405.
