Gunman robs man of clothes, car

COVINGTON -- Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a man who terrorized his victim before taking his clothes and his automobile and fleeing into DeKalb County.

According to NCSO Cpl. Anthony Washington, the victim was visiting a friend in the Fox Meadows subdivision, off Brown Bridge Road and near Ga. Highway 162, between midnight and 1 a.m. Friday.

"He pulled into the driveway of the house in his 2006 Chevrolet Impala," Washington said. "He exited the vehicle and walked toward the front door when a black male dressed in dark clothing and wearing a dark ski mask approached him with an assault rifle."

Washington said the suspect pointed the high-powered rifle at the victim and said, "Give it up. I'm not playing with you."

"He then fired off a round close to the victim's face and head area and he then ordered the victim to remove his clothing," Washington said.

The victim took off his clothes and the suspect then picked up the clothes, got into the victim's vehicle and fled the scene.

When deputies arrived, a lookout was given on the Impala, and Washington said it wasn't long until deputies with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office spotted the vehicle.

"They attempted a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued," Washington said. "The pursuit crossed into DeKalb County, where the offender exited the vehicle and fled."

Washington said the man managed to elude capture and is described as a black man with a black assault rifle, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 165 pounds, wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.
