If you want to sharpen your firearm skills or if you are a first-time gun owner, the Covington Police Department is ready to help with the No. 1 priority of gun ownership -- safety. Here, Detective D.J. Seals, left, and Sgt. Arvo Bowen discuss aiming for the largest mass when attempting to hit a target. The CPD is now taking applications for three classes this year on March 20, June 12 and Sept. 25. All students must be at least 21 years old and be willing to submit to a criminal background check. Firearms, ammunition, and eye and ear safety equipment will be provided. Personal weapons can be brought to class for inspection and discussion. Only 10 participants will be accepted for each class. To register, e-mail Bowen at arvo.bowen@covingtonpolice.com. If necessary, he can be called at 770-385-2128.
