CONYERS The Conyers man arrested in late December 2008 in connection with the death of a Lithonia woman and the rape of another woman will not likely face capital punishment.
Travis Santell Rabon, 22, allegedly raped, sodomized, beat and strangled Kiera Avant to death at his St. James Drive apartment. He is also charged in connection with the rape of Avant's companion, who survived the incident. Rockdale County District Attorney Richard Read said he is not seeking the death penalty against Rabon. "Just based on the facts and circumstances, I didn't think it was appropriate in this particular case," Read said. Read and Rabon's defense attorney, Michael Waldrop, had a criminal motions hearing this Tuesday before Superior Court Judge David Irwin. It was decided motions will continue, explained Read, to give the defense counsel time to file more motions. Waldrop was given until Feb. 19 to file additional motions.More like this story
