COVINGTON -- The Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual meeting Jan. 14 at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield.
Social time starts at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7.
The keynote speaker will be Rieva Lesonsky, CEO of GrowBiz Media, a small-business expert, author of the bestselling book "Start Your Own Business" and former editorial director of Entrepreneur Magazine.
"She has been on 'Oprah' and CNN. She's great. She's a motivational speaker and is also in business for herself," said Lisa Oglesby, director of programs for the Chamber. "She talks about surviving in these economic times in small business and what to do to help yourself."
Also at the meeting, the R.O. Arnold Award will be presented. Considered to be the most prestigious honor a Newton County resident can receive, the award recognizes a lifetime of community involvement and achievement.
The Dick James Small Business of the Year Award and the Spirit of Excellence Award, which recognizes a Chamber volunteer for outstanding contributions, will also be presented. Current Chamber board of directors Chairman Joe Stier will also pass the gavel to incoming Chairman Jerry Mays.
Tickets to the event are $55 and can be obtained by calling the Chamber at 770-786-7510. The deadline to purchase tickets is 5 p.m. Jan. 13.
