TV show looking for local extras

CONYERS -- The television show "The Vampire Diaries" is looking for local residents to step up to be extras for the show as the production company films scenes in Conyers this weekend.

"We're looking for paid extras, adults, 18 years old and up, for a party scene filming in Conyers," said Extras Casting Director Marty Keener Cherrix.

Residents interested are asked to e-mail a recent photograph of themselves to vampirediariescasting@gmail.com. Cherrix said they should also include their name, height, weight, age, clothing size and a phone number for the production company to contact them.

Extras are paid $7.25 per hour and will get overtime if the workday runs more than eight hours. They will also be served catered meals during filming, Cherrix said.

The show begins filming in Conyers on Wednesday and will continue through Tuesday. Cherrix said they needed people to work Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

The show, based on a young adult book series by L.J. Smith, currently airs on The CW television network.

Set in Mystic Falls, Va., "Vampire Diaries" chronicles the love triangle between popular high school student Elena Gilbert and two brothers -- both vampires, one good, one evil.

The show began filming in Covington in May with the Court House Square in downtown depicted as Mystic Falls. Cherrix said producers routinely consider the surrounding area for filming as needed for the show.

Producers expected to stay in the area through May and longer, if the show is picked up for a second season.

Cherrix declined to say where the exact filming location is in Conyers.

The show airs at 8 p.m. Thursdays on The CW. For more information, go to www.cwtv.com/shows/the-vampire-diaries/about.
