City retreat to be at FFA camp

The city of Covington will hold its annual retreat at the local FFA-FCCLA Center off Ga. Highway 36 on March 17-19. The cost will be $28 per person for the entire 21/2 day event, according to City Manager Steve Horton. Between 10 and 15 people are expected to attend, he said.

BOC plans for next SPLOST

With the 2005 Newton County special purpose local option sales tax about to sunset at the end of June 2011, it's time for commissioners to start prioritizing projects for the next round, County Attorney Tommy Craig said at a weekend retreat held at Burge Plantation.

Family credits school, EMS for saving son's life

A Newton High School junior continues to recover at home after suffering a cardiac arrest at school in late January. About 11 a.m. Jan. 25, James Norrington told his teacher he wasn't feeling well, so he made his way to the clinic. Upon reaching the clinic, he collapsed.

BOC considers anti-tethering ordinance

County commissioners are considering an amendment to the animal control ordinance to address tethering of animals. The issue was discussed at a retreat held at Burge Plantation over the weekend.
