COVINGTON -- Newton County authorities are continuing to look for four men who assaulted a man when he answered the door of his Kirkland Road home on Feb. 9.
Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. Anthony Washington said around 5 p.m. the victim answered the door and a man known to him only as Randall was there with three other black men.
"The victim spoke to Randall, who was requesting to see a female," Washington said. "The victim said she was not there, but they insisted on going inside the house. The victim didn't let them in, but went out and closed the door behind him."
Washington said that was when the victim was punched in the face by one of the men.
"Moments later they all started hitting him throughout his body," Washington said.
The four men then went inside the home and the victim phoned 911 on his cell phone.
"While he was on the phone, they exited the house and saw him on the phone and took his phone away from him. One of the men then stated if he called the law they would come back and beat him," Washington said.
The victim told the NCSO the four fled in a black, four-door Kia. He later told investigators he did not know what they wanted to see the woman about.
