Members of Mansfield United Methodist Church, from left, Patty Leathers, Mary Barnes and Mary Hayes commemorate the beginning of the Lenten season on Wednesday with a special service. Ash Wednesday is celebrated worldwide to mark the 40 days leading up to Easter. Many decide to give up something or take on a new challenge for those 40 days as a reminder of the sacrificial death of Christ.
