Officials cancel Brasstown retreat

COVINGTON -- The city of Covington is canceling its March retreat to Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa, City Manager Steve Horton said Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is celebrated worldwide to mark the 40 days leading up to Easter. COVINGTON -- Two commissioners and the county commission chairman took the unusual step of appointing themselves to a nonprofit board of directors overseeing Newton County Senior Services on Tuesday night. But by Wednesday morning, they had discovered that move was in violation of the board's bylaws.

Generals Mills makes $170K grant donation to organizations

COVINGTON -- Covington's General Mills plant continued to show its dedication to area schools and organizations by giving them grants. Many of the grants announced Wednesday morning will help parents get more involved with their children and will encourage students to live healthy lives.
