COVINGTON -- Students and staff members in the Newton County School System have already had one extended break from school this winter when schools closed for holiday break in December and early January, but next week they will take their official winter break.
Starting Monday, students and teachers in NCSS will be on holiday until Feb. 22.
The NCSS central office and Newton County Board of Education building, which is located at 2109 Newton Drive N.E. in Covington, will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, but it will close Wednesday through Friday for central office staff furlough days.
The central office will reopen Feb. 22, and all NCSS students and staff will report back to their schools and offices that day, when they will reopen to continue the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.
The next scheduled student holiday will be March 19, a teacher work day; on March 18, students will be dismissed from school early for school staff to participate in professional learning activities. The next extended break is April 5 through 9, which is spring break. On April 2, students will be dismissed early for staff to participate in professional learning.
The complete NCSS calendar for the 2009-10 school year is available on its Web site, www.newtoncountyschools.org.
