Kindergarten students in Julie Tucker's kindergarten class at Piedmont Academy celebrated Groundhog Day Tuesday.

The students learned about the groundhog and the history of the national groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil in Punxsutawney, Pa.

They celebrated the day by making groundhog puppets, role playing and ground hog hats.

The class enjoyed a special visit from Linda Giles, kindergarten student Maggie Johnston's grandmother, who is a native of Punxsutawney, Pa. Giles shared information about the grand celebration held every year in the small town and read a special story to the children about a groundhog named "Gretta."
