Georgia Perimeter College's Newton Campus is showcasing a special art exhibit this month, "Daily Lives: Peasant Art of China." It includes 30 paintings of rural life in China by the Chinese folk artists of Hu County, Shaanxi. Melissa Smith, a sophomore business administration major, took a break from class and stopped by the exhibit. While there, she wrote down the title of one piece, "Home from School" by Bai Xuhao, which caught her eye because of the colors and the subject matter. The art comes from China to GPC through a mini-grant from the Georgia Humanities Council and is sponsored by the Center for International Education and the GPC Division of Humanities and Fine Arts. The exhibit is timed to coincide with the Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 14. A special opening reception will be held on the GPC Newton Campus, located at 239 Cedar Lane in Covington, from 5 to 7 p.m. today in building 2-N. The reception will feature the music of the Spring Hill Musicians, a Norcross-based group of Chinese musicians.
