CONYERS -- A Big Lots employee was taken into custody last week after a shopper accused the man of looking from the ceiling at her and her 4-year-old daughter using the store's bathroom.
The employee was identified as 29-year-old Casey Daniel Smith of Baldwin.
Conyers Police responded to the Big Lots, located at 1820 Ga. Highway 20, Dec. 8 after receiving a complaint from the store manager.
According to reports, the manager told authorities that a Covington woman reported a man looking at her and her daughter using the bathroom.
Police talked with the woman who explained she saw a white man staring down at them through a raised ceiling tile. The woman asked the man what he was doing and the man disappeared, the report said.
The victim described the man's facial features and pointed Smith out as the man she saw. She pointed Smith out as he was coming out of the back stock room.
Smith was questioned and denied peeping at the woman and her daughter, telling authorities he was doing inventory in the back room.
In the back room, police found boxes stacked up against the wall that was adjacent to the women's restroom.
Smith admitted to climbing on the stacked boxes but said he needed to do so in order to see numbers on top of a tall box.
The store's manager told police that the tall box had been empty for weeks and Smith knew that from doing daily inventory.
Smith was handcuffed and taken to the Rockdale County Jail.
He was released Monday on a $1,000 bond.
